Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD)

A concept in data warehousing to manage how data that changes slowly over time is stored and tracked.

SCDs are used to track historical data in dimension tables.

Common Types


- Type 0: Fixed (No changes allowed)
- Type 1: Overwrite (No history)
- Type 2: Add new row (Full history with validity dates)
- Type 3: Add new column (Limited history)
